A Golf Tip From Golf Professional Floyd Gragg

Take Dead Aim Before You Swing

You can hit better golf shots with better alignment. Poor alignment can have an adverse effect on the golf swing. Taking aim at your target should become an instinctive part of your pre shot routine.

Always approach your shot from behind the ball so that you have a view of the line between the ball and your target. Pick out an object (an intermediate target is much easier to align yourself with than your intended target) which may be as far away as 200 yards. Place the club behind the ball and align it with the intermediate target you have chosen. Position your feet parallel to a line which passes through the ball position to make a good swing along your intended target line.

Practice this and make it an instinctive part of your swing.

Mason Ivy, Superintendent

As the Head Course Superintendent of a first class facility, and a member of the Golf Course Superintendents Association of America, Mason Ivy is responsible for all facets of course maintenance. Having extensive technical training as well as continued education in many areas of golf course management has helped Mason to devise both short and long term plans for the golf course. Some of his responsibilities include employee staffing and training, budgetary preparations and monitoring, and staying abreast of EPA, OSHA, and other governmental requirements as it relates to personnel, equipment, and the environment.

Mason has also received education in Agronomy with emphasis on Soils Chemistry, Plant Physiology, and Plant / Fungal Pathology, allowing him to take more of a scientific approach as it relates to product applications and turf grass performance. All of this ultimately boils down to course conditioning and pro-active maintenance in an attempt to provide excellent playing conditions today, and also in the future at Rocky River Golf Club.
